Second Weekend of Work - February 12-14

UPDATED!!! I found the photos!!! Well, when I connected my camera to the computer to get the photos from this past weekend's work, I realized I lost all but two. This makes me so sad because a picture is worth a thousand words and I don't feel like writing that much!!

Friday we had a snow day at work so I had the day off. Jason worked all morning and then we headed over to the house. I went to Home Depot to pick up more paint, a new kitchen sink/faucet, and other random things we needed. Then I got home and the plumbers were there working on our leak and gas hookups. They made a comment about the fixtures I'd gotten earlier that day so when my Mom came over around 3 we went to Home Depot, AGAIN. We picked out plumbing fixtures and everyone waved and made fun of me for coming in so often. We got more paint, which will be one of the things we'll get EVERY time we go. Then we went to Ferguson's ... it was a plumbing supply store where we went to find a bathtub fixture ... and found one for over $300. Needless to say, we'll be returning it. Then we headed back to the house and painted for the rest of the evening. We ordered pizza for the first time and it was super fun. It's always fun to hang with my parents. :)

View out the side yard.

Our house with snow!

Had to take a picture of our artwork on the wall before painting over it. :)

My super cute parents.

Saturday morning we woke up at a decent time and headed to the house to meet up with the plumbers. I went to Home Depot again to return some stuff and then went to Wal-Mart to get some (pardon my slang) wife beater undershirts to wear for painting. That way I don't ruin my cute cami's. While I was there I got some Valentine's cookies and Twilight conversation hearts. Then I headed to McDonald's to get breakfast. Kylee met us at the house to paint and my mom came over for a while, too. The plumbers were FINALLY done around 1:00, 4 hours and $$$$$$$$$ later. We had Wendy's for lunch and Kylee treated! It was so nice. We are so blessed to have such sweet friends. We painted some more and Kylee went to pick up Chris from work. Jason and I went to Home Depot to pick out light fixtures and we got a chandelier and entry-way light. By the time we got back it was getting to be dinner time and I was feeling like some Chinese food, so we headed over to Panda Express. YUMMY! Good times and good conversations about the movie Dear John and other things. Headed home for more ......... painting! Chris and Jason worked on patching drywall.

Mom came over to help cut in the ceiling paint.

Jason - the best ceiling painter ever!

Kylee ready to go!

No more orange!

We have a chandelier!

Those boys are so funny!

We have so much fun together. :)

Drywall!!

Entry-way light.

The boys finishing up the wall.

Kylee and I were tired and ready to go home and go to bed.

It was about 12:30 by the time we headed home, so we slept in through ABF and just went to "Big Church" on Sunday. We ate lunch at the Great Outdoors, which was mediocre, and then headed over to see Chris and Kylee's new apartment so they could take measurements. It is SO nice. We're so excited for them!! It's a great location, closer to both of their jobs, and a beautiful community. Wood floors and an awesome very unique layout. We can't wait to hang out over their once they move.

The keys!! :)

It was just a little windy.

After that, we headed over to the house to do a little more painting and drywall patching before relaxing for Valentine's Day at their apartment.

Kylee has a tool-belt!
Which makes her totally legit. Too legit to quit.

Kylee whipped up some chili cheese hot dogs, which totally hit the spot. We watched "The Time Traveler's Wife" and had chocolate covered strawberries for dessert. It was the perfect end to the weekend. I also found out that Kylee has a Jeanie Rub massager. It.Is.AMAZING. You can get the feeling of an awesomely expensive massage for free and hardly any effort. My whole body was so sore from all the work we did, so it was nice to get a good foot and leg rub. :)

I think it's a must have in the Smith household. Just $215!! Maybe for Christmas...

Monday night we went over to the house again and tried to work, but we were getting so distracted and discouraged. We need to focus and finish things one at a time, otherwise there's no progress. Here are the only photos that made it onto my computer. Have I mentioned how lame it is they didn't get uploaded??? YAY for photos!

Jason re-MOO-ving the cow border. :)

I am attempting to enjoy some sweet tea from Chicken Express. You can kind of see the beautiful green wall behind me. A HUGE step up from the orange...
Tuesday night my Mom and brother came over to watch The Bachelor online and I made some super yummy Shrimp-Tortellini-Spinach. Check out how delish this looks...

Wednesday night Chris and Kylee came over to watch Lost online and I made Cheesy-Chicken-Veggie-Mac which was good because we so needed some good old comfort food. We tried the Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches for the first time, and they are SO good.

So tonight we are just going to enjoy a night to ourselves. It is SO necessary and it has taken a back-seat to all this house stuff lately. So we've got our sweats on, our Little Caesar's warm and ready, and Private Practice ready to go. :)

First Weekend of Work

Well we got WAY more done than we thought we would on our first weekend in the house. Our friends, Chris and Kylee came over and helped out all weekend with us! My parents came over, too and they helped get stuff done and got us a yummy lunch from Subway. :)

Here are some photos:

This is after we depopcorned this room and removed the "crown molding" from the ceiling. They had put it on backwards... so it looks super lame.

Replacing the front door knob. These are our friends, Chris & Kylee. :)

Mom and Dad working hard to remove the face-plates and old window covering brackets. Don't you love all those crazy colors together???

Kylee and I trying our hand at removing the ugly cow border...it's a lot harder than it looks. We're going to try using boiling hot water...

Jason and Chris starting the removal of the fireplace tiles.

A little blood and a pink band-aid never hurt anyone, right?

Taking lunch orders. Mmmm...Subway.

Check out that fireplace! The boys did good.

Working on replacing the toilet. I'm actually scooping out the water from the toilet to lighten the load when we pick it up... eww.

Jason putting out the fire with a shovel and a spray bottle... :)

Kylee teaching me how to paint. She's a pro!

I'm painting!!!

Check out Kylee's skills ... and Chris is the best paint holder ever.

Kylee loves her brush ... and her brush loves her.

Check out that UN-blue wall. :)

Painting the "Pottery Red" over the blue.

This face is worth 1,000 words. GROSS.

I am scraping out the wax ring that goes around the bottom of the toilet. You can smell the gaseous fumes from the sewer... it is so gross.

More gross-ness.

Bringing in the new toilet. And for the record, Chris doesn't have gray hair. This is just what DE-popcorning does to your hair.

We ladies are a solid team. We totally knew what to do.

Screwing the toilet into the floor.

Tank time!

Kylee making sure we're doing it right...thanks girl!

This hose was the hardest thing to get to connect. I was pretty frustrated at this point...

...but Kylee saved the day. :)

Working on the toilet lid. Nice hair, Alina.

Ta-da!! Our brand new toilet! Thanks to Home Depot and their "Do It Herself" workshop, Kylee and I were rockstars. :)

This is the "finished" bathroom. We're probably going to go lighter on the tan walls so it's not so dark, but it's WAY better than the deep blue sea they had going on before.

More things to do this coming weekend, mostly painting. Looking forward to working in a heated house this time!
